rocky’s matcha is honored to offer chasen from Suikaen, led by 25th-generation master craftsman Yasaburo Tanimura. The Suikaen (縁) En Chasen Matcha Whisk embodies the quiet mastery of generations devoted to the art of tea.
Each chasen is hand-crafted by Suikaen artisans in Takayama, Nara, using locally grown Hachiku (Henon white bamboo), a material revered for centuries for its dense grain, fine texture, and natural strength. Carved from a single piece and bound with white and blue thread, its tines are split with precision to produce a perfectly whisked bowl of matcha.
Before its first use, take a moment to prepare your whisk as part of the ritual. Gently remove it from its box, secured with traditional rice glue, by holding the handle and slowly easing it free. Wipe the base clean with a damp cloth, then allow the whisk to bloom in warm water. This softens the delicate tines and prepares them for the many bowls of matcha to come.
